The hakarl is a type of food eaten in Iceland. It is primarily a fermented Greenland Shark. The other sleeper shark species can also be used to prepare the food. After the fermentation, the shark is hung to dry for a period of between four and five months.
This food smells much like Ammonia and tastes like fish. The hakarl is readily available in the stores all through Iceland. The food is the staple food of the land as you can get it all year round.
