5. Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, Tristan
The island is part of an overseas territory of the UK and is one of the most remote places on earth. Often regarded as the ‘most remote permanent settlement on Earth,’ the place is also called The Settlement or The Village. Only 270 people call the island their home and most families own several lands where they grow vegetables and have livestock too. With no airport, boats are the only way of communication with the outside world.
